How Do I ... Use Word or Excel with Premvet 5 ?
(Extracted from the manual http://localhost/premvet/manual/pv5/vision.html)
Linking with Microsoft Office
Various option within Premvet 5 will call Microsoft Office and other Windows application as needed. These include:
- Excel - To look at CSV files
- Web Browser - For the manual pages and help
- Wingif and Other Graphics programs - For viewing images
- Notepad - As a Text Editor or as a file editor
Note: These options only apply if you are using a Networked PC to access
the vet system and the Windows software is installed.
This will take place automatically if:
- You have a supported Terminal Emulator (Anita/Powerterm/Anzio)
- Samba or Vision FS is running to provide Windows CIF support.
These steps only need carried out once and the rest of this section will
explain the steps in detail.
Setting Up Your Terminal Emulator
- Make sure you are using a supported Terminal Emulator.
- Use the option General Applications -> Parameters ->
Hardware -> Device to make sure the screen you are
using has been set correctly specifically the 'Emulator' option.
(Note: The system will automatically detect the Anita Terminal Emulator)
Setting Up Drive Mapping
This will have been done for you. You can check by selecting 'Network Neigbourhood' or 'My Network Places' and look for an entry 'Premvet on Samba Server on xxxxxx' where xxxxx is the name of your Unix Host.
Now whenever a Windows application is needed it will be called up automatically.
With Microsoft Word and Excel you can add a shortcut directly onto the 'Places' tool bar - see the FAQ Customising Places for details.
When you are in Excel (or Word) if you enter \\SERVERNAME you will access files/documents in the visible folders. If Excel is called directly from Premvet the document will be loaded automatically.
