Using Laser Labels
You can use 2-Up laser labels in Premvet when generating recalls and general mailing lists. These are cheaper to use for mailshots than drug labels as well as being a lot quicker to generate.
The main area users have problems with is getting the printer to print the correct number of lines per page. This FAQ will discuss one method of generating laser labels easily.
Setting Up The Printer
- The 1st step is to check your existing laser printer(s) - How many lines does it print?
System Management -> Setup -> Parameters -> Hardware -> Codes printer - Select the laser printer and look at 'Paper Length' if this is set
to 64 then make a note of the 'command' and skip to step (4) otherwise
you need to create a new printer in the O.S.
This does NOT need to be a new physical printer - this is really a 'pseudo' printer - an exisiting printer that is just used when laser labels are required.
- Setup a new printer in the Operating System (support can do this for you
if needed) and use one of the 'dumb' drivers (interface files).
- Use the Premvet Printer Manager
System Management -> Setup -> Parameters -> Hardware -> Codes printer - Select a free printer letter,
Select 'N'ew and pick 'HP Laser Labels' from the pop-up menu,
Then press <ESC> to return to the printer definition screen.Make sure:
- Paper Length is set to 64
- Need FF is set to Yes
- Command is set to the new printer or the same as an exisiting 64 line laser.
- Description is set to something meaningfull for you e.g. 'Laster Labels'
- Use the 'T'est -> 'P'age-Length option to make sure the printer is printing 64 lines per page
Tell Premvet which printer is to be used
You could just use the Function Key F9 to swap to the laser label printer
but it is easier to set the option. Laser_Labels = X in
params.txt, with this set you need do nothing when generating
labels (other than make sure the stationary is loaded).
You do this by:
Add a line Laser_Labels = X where X is the printer letter
you setup in the earlier step.
Press the function key F2 to save the file and exit (if you are on a Wyse terminal then press Control Y)
Set the label size
- Use: Fee and Stock -> Label Generation -> Configure -> Laser
- We recommend you use Avery Laser L7163 stationary as this is the labels we have tested with.
- Use the setup screen to set the number of labels per page and offsets
as needed.
For the L7163 they are:Number of lines to skip BEFORE printing 1 Number of FULL labels per page 7 Number of lines PER label 9 Margin offset (Left Label) 4 Margin offset (Right Label) 50 - Use the 'T'est option on the prompt line. This will print some
dummy labels (run this initially with plain paper in the printer)
to check the line up is correct.
Using the options
All you need to do is ensure that the label stationary is loaded prior to running the appropriate option.
