Allocate Clients
When you are adding new records to a branch system Premvet cannot just add this to the end of the database as it has no way of knowing if the record allocated has been used by a remote machine. The system instead, will look for pre-allocated records that have been created on the main system (called XUD?). These records are added via the Allocate Clients option on the Cross updating menu.
This has to be done from the main site (user needs access to the Cross updating menu).
From the main menu:
General Applications > Modules > Cross Updating > Allocate Clients
When you press A (or highlight Allocate Clients and press return) you will be
asked if you want to continue. Say Yes.
You will then be asked which surgery these new cards should be sent to, answer as required. This adds a batch (200 records) of new clients to the cross updating log file.
Normally, these cards will be sent the next time the two machines
'talk'. However, if it is necessary to send the new cards
immediately you will need to log in as
root and enter the necessary password.
At the root prompt (#) type
xmenu
this displays the Cross Updating Control Menu on the screen, select:
- Option 1 - Queue log file for remote site
- Option 4 - Force a verbose connection.
You will be asked which site you want to call, (there should be a list of sites
available to call at the top of the screen). Type the name of the site as it
appears and press return. Lots of text will appear on the screen, finally you
will receive either:
Conversation complete: Status succeeded
Conversation complete: Status failedPress the
<DELete>key to return to the menu.If the first one appears everything is fine, the new files have been sent and will be waiting to be picked up at the branch. To pick them up at the branch site, a user will need to
- Login as root at the branch
- Go into
xmenu. - Select option 2 - Check for incoming work
the screen will flash and it will appear that nothing has happened although the new cards will have been picked up and are waiting to be integrated on login.
If the connection fails (the second outcome) try resetting the modems at both sites and then running xmenu option 4 again. If you are unsure how to do this, what a modem is or if it still fails you will need to call support.
