Premvet Update Server and OSR 6

There is an option under Help on the main Premvet menu called Check for Updates to allow you to upgrade and check which version you are on.

This is explained in more detail here.

The system does keep track of which version of the Operating System you are on as it can take advantage of O.S. utilities. The Update Server uses the appropriate version of Premvet for the Version of the O.S. installed.

We currently do not use any of the features of SCO Open-Server 6 so there is no Premvet specific version. This does give the Update server a problem as there is nothing to update. However, due to backward compatibility by SCO the 5.0.7 version of Premvet does appear to run without any difficulty.

There is a method where the OSR 6 machine can report it is running as a 5.0.7 compatible machine.

See SCO TA 126184 for the full details.

Basically you set an option and when Premvet queries the O.S. it returns 5.0.7 and the Update Server will install the 5.0.7 version.

To set this:

Now when you are in Premvet the system will think you are on OSR 5.0.7 and act accordingly.

Please keep an eye on the Release Notes as they will document when a version of Premvet will support OSR 6 options.
