Customising the Tree
The TreeView is displayed when you press T on an animal record card. This will show you all the animals belonging (related) to the same client. There are some options within Premvet that allow you to control what is displayed and how the animals are presented. This FAQ explains them.
Premvet Menu Opions
These are located on the following menu:
| 14 | Hide Dead Animals |
If the animal is dead (Status code DD) it will NOT be displayed if this
option is set to Yes. Even if the animal is dead and hidden it can still be displayed by pressing the '/' key. The system will show you on the bottom line of the tree the number of displayed animals followed by the total number e.g. 6/8 would be 6 animals out of 8 displayed, pressing '/' would show all 8. See also Hide_Master below as well.
|
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Tree Alphabetical |
If set to Yes then animals will be displayed in alphabetical order
with Farm and Equine before Small animals. Any records with a balance
(or marked with classification 12) will be moved to the top of the
tree. Set to No then animals will be displayed in the order they appear on the system e.g. numeric.

Params.txt options
Params.txt, this is another control file used to alter the behaviour of the system, this is a basic text file that can be changed with any of the existing editors. See the on-line manual for details.
| Hide_Animal_Status |
When animals have died, put to sleep etc. the status code is changed to
'DD'. It is this status code the system uses to decide if the
card will be hidden via 'Hide Dead Animals' (see 14 above). As well as the DD status code you can add other codes, e.g. you may have 'RH' for Re-Homed, 'MA' for moved away. You may not normally want to see these records so you can add them via this option and they will be hidden e.g. Set Hide_Animal_Status = DDRHMA. Note: You do need to include the DD code if you are using this. You can still use the '/' to show them as with dead animals.
|
|---|---|
| Tree_Colour |
You have seen how you can hide some status codes using the above option,
what if you don't want to hide codes but rather change the colour of
the entry based on the Status code. You can use Tree_Colour to do this,
yes you can have both Hidden animals and different coloured animals at
the same time.
By default status code DD will use colour event 130. Lets assume we want different colours for AB (Animal Bites) and TC (Take Care). You would add an entry Tree_Colour = DDABTC. Now DD will use colour event 130, AB event 131 and TC event 132, you can specify up to nine different status codes (up to event 139).
|
| Hide_Master | When you have 'Hide Dead Animals' (see 14 above) set to yes, then by default, ALL dead animals are hidden. However, some practices like to attach notes and additional comments onto the master card and do not want it hidden at all. If this option is set to No e.g. Hide_Master = No then the master record will never be hidden. |
Animal Markers
What are those symbols to the left of the animal name?
These show:
| + | The first (Master) in the chain - pressing plus (+) will access this record. |
|---|---|
| - | The last in the chain - pressing minus (-) will access this record. |
| * | Animal is dead. |
