Managing People

Overview

In order to use some of The EnServe's services (mainly e-mail and file-sharing) the people using your network need to identify themselves to the EnServe.
This is achieved by assigning each person that needs to use these services a unique username and a password. They then use this username and password to identify themselves to the EnServe, when collecting mail for example. As well as a username and password a person will have a mailbox which allows them to receive e-mail and shared folders which allow them to share their files with other people on your network.

Adding / Editing People

You add new people to the system using the admin login.
From this menu select 'Administrative Menu' followed by 'Add a user to the system'.

->

Login name :

In conjunction with the person's password this name identifies and authenticates the person to the EnServe.
This is the name the person must use to access their mailbox, shared folders and private Intranet pages.
The person's Login Name must not already exist on the EnServe as a login name, groupname or mail alias.
If the person uses a Windows computer and wishes to use shared folders it is useful to use the same username and password for them on the EnServe and their Windows computer.
If a person has a mailbox their loginname is also their primary mail alias. Once a login name is set it cannot be changed without removing the person completely.

Full name :

The person's full name. This is used as the full name in Premvet (if being added) and as the user's name of E-Mail.

Incoming Mail Aliases : To add-mail aliases you will use one of the other admin options and will be explained in the Managing Incoming E-mail section of this manual.

When the user is added the system will automatically:

  • Create a Shared Folder
  • Create a private web area for the user to share their web documents. This is access by http://servername/~user.
