Important Concepts - Anti Spam |
|
SPAM (all upper-case letters) is a tinned meat product. Spam (lower case) is the unwanted junk e-mail that is flooding the Internet. Junk e-mail is a huge problem on the Internet. There is nothing stopping anyone in the world sending you e-mail if they know your address and many disreputable companies and individuals take advantage of this to flood the Internet with e-mails advertising their products. These spammers get lists of millions of e-mail addresses by automatically scouring the world-wide-web for e-mail addresses on web sites and also randomly generate lists of e-mail addresses in the hope of getting an active on. Many web sites also sell lists of their users e-mail addresses to the spammers either directly or indirectly. Although laws are being passed to combat spam they are pretty ineffective and almost impossible to enforce. The best way to avoid spam is through common sense, an understanding of e-mail and technology. You can help cut down the amount of spam you receive dramatically by following the following guidelines.
Your EnServe has the ability to scan all incoming mail and decide if it is spam or genuine e-mail. It can mark suspected spam as such for filtering by your e-mail software, forward suspect mail to a specific user or simply delete the suspect e-mails. |
