Important Concepts - Groups

It often makes sense to group people together for management purposes. You may have a clinical department, a sales department and an administration department for example.

Your EnServe allows you to group together people it knows about into groups to make it easier for them to work together. A group can contain any number of people that the EnServe has records for. People can be members of more than one group.

An e-mail address can be provided for the group. Any e-mail sent to the group address will be delivered to all the groups members. Groups can have mail aliases too, meaning that the mailing list can have more than one address. If, for example, the people jack, jill and john are members of the a group called 'vets' then any e-mail to vets@localdomain (where localdomain is your local network domain) will be delived to each of them. If the 'vets' group has a mail alias of 'surgeons' then any e-mail sent to surgeons@localdomain will also be delivered to all three of them.

Shared folders can be provided that are accessible only by group members. This feature also provides both public and password-protected intranet pages for the group.
