Managing The Web Cache

Overview

The EnServe can act as a caching web proxy.

What this means is that any web pages accessed by people on your network are copied to the EnServe. When someone requests the same web page the EnServe checks to see if a newer version is available and if not it returns the copy it has stored, saving the time it would take to download the page from the Internet. This speeds up web browsing for all computers on your network and is more efficient than using the caching features of each individual computer.

The web caching is automatically enabled with EnServer.

To take advantage of this you should enable the 'proxy' options within your browser. Setting for different browsers are covered in the User section of this manual

Another proxy enabled with EnServer is JunkBusters.

The Internet Junkbuster Proxy is privacy-enhancing software that can be run on your PC or by your ISP or company. It blocks requests for URLs (typically banner ads) that match its blockfile. It also deletes unauthorized cookies and other unwanted identifying header information that is exchanged between web servers and browsers. These headers are not normally accessible to users (even though they may contain information that's important to your privacy), but with the Internet Junkbuster you can see almost anything you want and control everything you're likely to need. You decide what's junk.
