Like most companies, our techies love email. (It's much nicer than being rude to people to their face!) Like most companies, our executives hate email. While Elm is an excellent start, we needed a *really* simple text editor to dump them into. "Use vi!" "What could be simpler than EMACS?" Yeah, right. Even things like Joe were too much. So STE, the Simple Text Editor, was born. It was a stated design goal of this program that if you need a man page, it is a failure. The bottom line is help. The keys all try to do the most obvious thing possible. It's a single file program, and has been tested and used daily by dozens on SCO systems. It's known to compile and run on almost anything with a reasonable curses. (Sun/OS, Solaris, HP/UX, etc.) Any enhancement you submit will be checked against the primary design goal. 1. Is this a feature a CFO reading/sending mail has to have? The author of this program is the honorable Gene Olson (gene@zeno.mn.org). He has asked that I make this program available to the public and act as coordinator of fixes and enhancements. --- Robert Lipe Sr. Software Engr. Digi International robertl@dgii.com
