The metacharacters may appear esoteric and difficult to remember until you get used to them. If you find you are using a combination of these frequently we would recommend you set them up via a macro.
A macro is a code which will automatically translate into the metacharacters required. For example, if insurance work is always entered as '|100' you could use a macro called ' I ' (for 'Insurance'). Then instead of entering code |100 you would use simply enter the character 'i'. Using Macros with automatic pricing and metacharacters is explained fully later and we would recommend you use 1-2 character codes for macros and 3-5 for stock/procedure codes.
Macro's are entered onto the animal record in the same way as you enter AP and stock item. The big difference is macro's may call multiple codes and include the metacharacters.
