Operations and Hospital List

The system maintains a list of all animals due to come into the surgery for an operation or who are currently an in-patient.

Animals can be added to the list in three ways:

  1. By printing an 'Operation Consent' form.
  2. By adding directly via the menu.
  3. By using Automatic Pricing

The Ops list is accessed via:

With the last two options, if the animal who's record you are displaying is currently on the operation list the Op card for that animal will be displayed automatically. Otherwise, the full operation list will be displayed.

The Operation list

 When the operation list is selected, it will show the operations for today, the list is sorted by the 'status' of the op. e.g.:

Add List Browse Show Goto Wipe Print Quit

The prompt line options:

Add
Adds an operation onto the list. You will be asked the client/animal it is for then prompted for Operation Details, date, phone-in time etc.

If you specify that the expected length of stay is greater than one day then the animal will be carried over to the following day as required for the duration of the treatment.

Comment
Allows you to change any of the 'comment for the day' that you may have setup.

The comment for the day will always appear at the TOP of daily list. You have currently sixteen comment slots, you specify the start date and the number of days you wish it to remain on the list. Old comments will be removed automatically after two days.

List
List all the operations in date order.

Browse
The option will step through the operations for the date you are on.

Show
This displays an operation card in more detail.

Goto
Displays the list for a different date.

Wipe
This will delete all operations or all old (i.e. older than 7 days) operations from the system.

Print
This will print all operations for the selected date. You have two different output formats:

Move forward by one day

-
Move back by one day

Browse and Show

If the browse or show options are used the system will display the full operation details on the screen allowing you to:
Card
Jump directly to the animals record card.
Fix
Jump to the Appointments Diary system to make an appointment.
Remove
Remove the operation from the system.
Edit
Change any operation details on the system.
Status
Mark the operations as:
  • Done - mark as complete
  • Admit - Animal in ready for operation
  • Pre-Med - Under going pre medication
  • Discharge - Ready to be collected
  • Blank - Reset the status of the operation
  • Observe - Flags the status as 'Observe'
  • Recovery - Flags the status as 'Recovery'
Next
Display the next card. If date was used then the next operation for that date will be displayed, otherwise the next operation card on file will be shown.
Back
As next except display the previous card.
Print
Allows you to generate another consent form or use a general definition file to print information as required.
Text
Additional notes (7 lines) can be made recording the progress of the animal. These notes are not stored after the operation is over, they can also be accessed from the record card (via Oper -> eXpand ) so reception staff can easily access it. The status column of the daily list will be highlite (colour event 222) if there are any comments.

The text will also be printed on the 'Detailed' print out.

If when the operation list is accessed there are more than 200 operations on file the system will automatically remove any old operations.

Adding Via Automatic Pricing

The AP meta-character ^21=days can be used to add an entry to the Ops list from within AP. If the 'days' is not specified it will default to 1 day.

The other 'days' options that can be set are:

^21= Sets Status To
250 '' e.g. blank it out
251 'Recovery'
252 'Observe'
253 'Discharge'
254 'Admitted'
255 'Done'

If you use ^21=x where x is greater than 1 then status is set to 'Observe' this assumes the animal is currently 'in' e.g being checked on a daily basis - if there is NO existing operation for an animal it will be set to 'Admitted'.

Operation lists and outstanding operations

If the client's management record card indicates there is an operation waiting to be performed, you can display the details by selecting 'O'pp at the management prompt line, and then e<X>pand.

When 'X' is selected a window will appear giving the relevant information. e.g.

Operation : Castration Status: Recovery
Quoted 75.00 and told to phone at 14.30. Op. date 21.05.2000
