LifeLearn 'Information by Prescription'

If you have the Lifelearn 'Information by Prescription' client handouts these can be accessed from either the <H>elp menu option or from the management prompt via <O>peration - <H>andout (or <W>indows)

The Lifelearn Handouts come in two forms:

Native Windows - These are Windows documents, including all the formatting. Accessing and customising this form is covered in a separate section later on.
Text Format - In this form, the handouts will have been converted to text and installed on the system. You can customise these to add details from animal record card e.g. client name, address etc. The remainder of this chapter deals with this format.

When selected you will be given the choice of the handouts sections available, which are currently: Canine, Feline, Avian, Behaviour, Exotic and a special practice handout. If accessed from a record card the default will be based on the species of the animal.

You will then be presented with the list of the available subjects, pick as required.

Every time a Lifelearn handout is printed in this way a clinical line, with the analysis code 211, can be added to the client's clinical record indicating the file used. In order to enable this facility you will need to set:

'G'en Apps - 'P'arams - 'F'ields - 'O'ptions - 'M'ore - '7'

You have the choice of:

Edit - Edit the actual handout to alter layout, add reserved word etc. You will be prompted for the editor to use.

Note: if you do make any changes and you then update the lifelearn files then the changes will be lost. You should make a copy and edit that.
View - Display the handout on the screen
Re-Select - Pick another handout

Custom Handouts

The lifelearn module allows you to access the various handouts supplied by lifelearn. However, there may be situations where you want to generate your own handouts and keep them separate from the others. The option 'Practice' has been added to keep your handouts separate from the Lifelearn ones.

To add a handout to the 'Practice' section you should:

Write the handout as required.
Copy it into text/life e.g. A handout on Fleas Create it with one of the text editors (which will leave the file in the 'text' sub-directory) call it say flea.own.
Shell out with F6 and cp text/flea.own text/life
Edit the file text/life/own.idx and add in a line for your handout e.g. flea.own My handout on Fleas

It will now appear on the menus. Note, if you want your own handout's to appear in the 'All' category then you should also add a line in the file text/life/life.idx.
