    Text editor(s)
You use a text editor to make changes to definition files. Any text editor can be used, this menu gives a choice and the one you use is purely based on personal preferences. The list is:

    HyperText Browser
All of the manual pages are written in 'HTML' (Hyper-Text Markup Language) which is the same as all the web pages you can visit.

Normally, you would browse these pages via a graphical browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer however, these applications will not work on Wyse terminals. There is a utility called Lynx that will make a good job of rendering HTML on character based screens.

This option will access Lynx and use Your Web Page as a starting point.

Help for lynx is available on-line, if, when lynx is up, you press '?' or use this local link.

    Spread Sheet
In addition to the Link to Microsoft Excel the character based 'sc' spreadsheet is available. This is a very basic spreadsheet.

The on-line manual covers the basics.

Tip: If you go into sc by mistake 'q' will get you out.

    E-Mail
All Unix systems have built in E-Mail - with this you can send messages anywhere. The very basic front end supplied with the O.S. is limited and confusing.

This option will access whatever mailer you have linked to the name 'mail' in your path.

By default this will be 'elm' which is a user friendly mailer. Getting a bit dated now but does work well. The User Guide covers the basics.

One of the other popular mailers is 'mutt' , it is being developed so it does have a few more features. See the on-line manual for the details.

For details on using E-Mail from within Premvet 5 refer to the later section.

    Communications
XC is a communications program to allow you to call other systems. It includes a dial-directory and makes it ideal for calling up your remote site(s).

We hope to have the manual page on-line shortly.

    CD Player
The CD drive on the server can be used to play audio CD's. This option is the character based front end for XCD - with this staff can stop/start, change tracks etc. - Ideal for background music in the reception area.

    O.S. Frontend

There are more and more application packages getting used on the system and some are so obscure that they will not be added to the existing menu system. A new option has been added to the Text Utilities menu called 'O.S. Front end' this is the Unix program 'scosh'. SCO SHell is a powerful front end that allows you to configure the desktop to suit your needs. In addition to the applications it can be used to Edit file, copy and move documents, maintain appointments.

This can also be set as the start-up screen to allow users to select other applications on logging in.

Security: If you are logging as individual users and then use the function key F4 to switch premvet identities the following options will be blocked by the system:
    81 Access to O.S. (Via F6)
    84 E-Mail
    101 OS FrontEnd
