Record Locking

Management/Treeview Record: Locking

To stop multiple people accessing and updating the same record at the same time the system will apply a 'lock' to the record. This lock will be in force while the card is being used and released when finished. If another user tries then the message:

Record in use by - Reception - <V>iew <R>e-try or <Q>uit

Will be displayed.

The options you have are:
Next Ignore this card and access the next animal
Auto-retry Retry the record automatically, beep when accessed, you can enter <ESC> to give up.
View Allows you 'Read-Only' access to the records, any option that allows work to be added / edited or bill/receipts to be printed are disabled.
Retry Checks to see if lock has been removed.
Quit Returns you to the selection screen.

If you think the lock is invalid there is an option Clear Record Locks that can be used to remove it.

Clear Record Locks

Should you find the system is reporting a lock and this cannot be identified there is an option

Main Menu -> General Apps -> Clear Record lock (Classic)
Main Menu -> System Management -> Remove Record locks (New Style)

this can be used to clear it. The option will list which records are locked by whom. If you see any of the following messages this option can be used to clear them:

The prompt line:

Clear
You will be prompted for the tty number (shown on the screen) to reset. You can remove just the Record lock or if the user is no longer logged in remove the User from the system as well.

To remove the Vatbook, Purchase Ledger or Cross Updating lock enter the 1st character e.g. 'V' for Vatbook, 'C' for cross updating etc.

Refresh
This will update the screen.
Users
This will look at the Operating System list of users and update Premvet if it finds a difference between the two.
