It is estimated that for every flea you find on &animal there are approximately 50 of the various stages of the flea life cycle in your carpets and furniture. This sheet will set out what we consider to be an ideal combined approach to flea control; help is at hand! &es THE ABC OF EFFECTIVE FLEA CONTROL &ef &bs A. Killing fleas brought in on &animal: &bf i) &bs Nuvan Top &bf is an aerosol, applied every 7-10 days in the summer. ii) &bs Frontline &bf is a pump spray, lasts for 2-3 months (may also be used in conjuction with Nuvan Top or Tiguvon) iii) &bs Tiguvon drops &bf, applied to the neck every 4 weeks &bs B. Killing the fleas hatching in the house: &bf i) &bs Nuvan Staykil, &bf kills fleas (& also ants) for 3 months ii) &bs Fleagard, &bf kills fleas (& also ants) for 2 weeks, repeat dose kills fleas for 3 months iii) &bs Acclaim, &bf kills fleas for 2 weeks, and prevents eggs hatching for about 3 months &bs C. Breaking the life cycle: &bf &bs Program &bf is a novel drug which is given to &animal in &hisher food. Any female flea that feeds on &animal will lay eggs which are incapable of hatching. Simply dose &animal monthly and &bs Program &bf does the rest! &es AN IDEAL COMBINATION &ef * Treat &animal , and all other animals, with one of Nuvan Top, Frontline, or Tiguvon * Spray your house with e.g. Nuvan Staykil, and plan to repeat it every three months. One can will just about be sufficient for a three-bed semi-detached house; make sure you use enough. * Start ALL of your animals on Program. This approach will kill any fleas brought in by &animal and your other pets, you will kill any fleas as they hatch out from eggs in your furniture (flea eggs can lie dormant in your house for 6-12 months before hatching), and &bs Program &bf will prevent any new eggs from hatching. As long as you keep all pets on &bs Program &bf you should be able to stop spraying your house after six months or so. &bs You will need to keep treating &animal however, as &heshe will still be bitten by fleas jumping on to &himher when out for walks. &bf If you would like to know any more about flea control, please just ask at the surgery, or phone the "Flea Hot-Line" on 0345 573912 from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
