Various option within Premvet 5 will call Microsoft Office and other
Windows application as needed. These include:
Note: These options only apply if you are using a Networked PC
to access the vet system and the Windows software is installed correctly.
This will take place automatically if:
These steps only need carried out once and the rest of this section
will explain the steps in detail.
If you are using Anita version 5 or higher the emulator will be set for
you automatically (to type I). In addition, you will not need to specify
any of the external programs as the system will use the Registered
File Types on YOUR PC to open the required file.
You should ensure that you have .GIF, .CSV, .TXT, .HTML all associated
with an application.
Setting Up Your Terminal Emulator
- Make sure you are using a supported
Terminal Emulator.
- Use the option
General Applications -> Parameters -> Hardware ->
Device
to make sure the screen you are using has been
set correctly - specifically the 'Emulator' option.
Setting Up Drive Mapping
There are three steps involved:
- Creating the Share
You can do this either from the Unix side or the Windows side, select
the method you are more familiar with.
- Unix Command Line
- Log in as root
- Type:
/usr/vision/bin/visionfs share \
--add premvet /u/vetdata "Vet System"
- Restart the server with:
/usr/vision/bin/visionfs restart
- Windows Profile Editor
- Login to Windows as Vision Administrator (usually root) and go into
Network Neigbourhood.
- Double Click: Name-of-Unix-Server -> Visiontools -> Visionfs -> Profedit
- Select: Edit -> New Shared Folder
- Share Name premvet
- Comment Vet Systems
- Unix Directory /u/vetdata
- Click OK
- Exit Profile Editor, Select 'Yes' to Update Server
- Go back into Unix m/c in the network neigbourhood and make sure
a folder 'premvet' is now present.
- Security This is an optional step, but we do recommend
it is carried out. To stop users accidently editing/deleting critical
Premvet data files you should tell the Vision Software not to display
certain files.
- Login to Windows as Vision Administrator (usually root) and go into
Network Neigbourhood.
- Double Click: Name-of-Unix-Server -> Visiontools -> Visionfs -> Profedit
- Right Click the 'premvet share and select 'Properties'
- Click the 'Permissions Tab', then the 'Dos Attributes' box
- Select 'Hidden' from the pull down box
- Click the 'For filenames matching' option
- As a minimum enter ?6*
For more security add the following:
*.brd *.col *.hlp *.lab *.cnf *.dat *.idx u* *.exe colour* *.inv *.add
stk* *.prt *.dir
- Exit Profile Editor, Select 'Yes' to Update Server
- Mapping the Drive
This is to enable the Windows PC's to 'see' the new share.
- Double click: Network Neigbourhood
- Double click: Name-of-Unix-Box
- Right click: Premvet
- Select: Map Network Drive
- Select: Drive P
- Click OK
As an alternative, if you are only using Anita as a terminal
emulator (version 5) then you can:
Vision Related Errors
If you see a pop-up box with ShellExecute() error: X this
usually indicates a problem with the integration link. The error numbers
relate to:
Error Number | Reason
|
|---|
| 2 | You do not have drive 'P:' (or VisionFS set)
mapped, or the system cannot find the Microsoft
Application on your PC to open the document with.
Check that you can access the document via 'My Computer'.
|
| 31 | Windows is unable to associate the document type you are
attempting to open/look at. Make sure that the file extension (.exe, .gif)
etc. is registered with an application.
