The 'P'arameters option. (on Cross Updating Menu). This consists of 9 settings:
This option MUST be set to Yes if cross-updating is being used. This enables the system to keep a log of all work added to send to the remote sites.
If you have switched it off to make corrections please ensure that NO SCREENS are logged in while logging is switched off. Remember to switch logging back on!
If this option is set to Yes then ALL work received from remote machines will be included in the Vatbook at the site receiving the work. Otherwise, the received work will NOT appear. This does NOT affect the work entered at the site it was done - that will be processed by the local vatbook as normal. This relates ONLY to work received from remote sites.
When set to Yes, the system will automatically send over to the remote an 'extra' set of records. These records:
That is, it will send animals seen in the last year but not too recent that are registered at the site. This allows the system to 'trawl' through cards at a regular rate (see 5/6 below) and update the master system.
This should be set to the surgery number that the system relates to, e.g. Main = 1, Branch = 2, Portable = 3 etc.
If set to zero then no processing will take place. Only one system can add records without relying on records being allocated, on this system you should set this to 1 i.e. it becomes the master machine.
In addition, make sure the surgery number is set correctly for each screen.
See the FAQ: Change the terminal Settings. for additional details.
On the main site all screens should be set to surgery 1, at branch 2 - set to 2 etc.
When 'Auto-Fix' is on, this is the number of records it will send at any one time.
At what record to start looking for records to send. This is maintained by the system but can be altered if required.
The remote sites need to have records allocated for them. You can use the 'Allocate Records' (on the Cross Updating Menu). This setting is used to get the system to automatically allocate them. It should be set to the number of sites that cross update. If it is set to zero (or one) then no automatic allocation is carried out.
Whenever work is integrated on the main server, and this option is active, the system will count the number of free records for each branch. If they are less than whatever is in option (8) then option (8) worth of records will be automatically allocated.
This is related to the above option (7). If there are less than this number of free records on the system then this number will be created automatically.
Do not set this to be a high number (>200), as work is integrated on a regular basis it is best to allocate a lowish number. This will mean the log files being transferred are a reasonable size.
This is reserved for later use.
