xmenu - Control Menu

This is the menu system for accessing all the Unix commands needed to administer cross updating.

To run it, you should log in as 'admin' and select the 'Cross-updating' option from the admin menu, or as root, type xmenu at the '#' prompt. The screen will show:

X Return to Operating System

At the top there is a summary showing who you are and who you are sending information to, whether background integration is currently running and if the cross-updating is locked.

The first two options are the standard x_send and x_check updating utilities. You can pick either of them to manually run the appropriate option.

Force a silent Connection (uukick)

This option will prompt you for the name of a site to contact and will attempt a connection with it. If the connection is successful any work waiting at either end will be transferred, and the link will then drop. uukick - runs in the background - that is, you will not get a progress report on what is happening.

Force a verbose Connection (uutry)

Identical to uukick above except it will display on the screen a log of what is happening. Very useful in troubleshooting a connection.. When uutry finishes you will have to press the 'DEL' key to return to the # prompt.

This utility is discussed further in the troubleshooting section.

Real-Time monitor (uustatus)

This is a real time display of what is happening. The screen will update every 30 seconds and allows you to get a summary of the UUCP connections. You will also see during a call out from your server the last few lines of the conversation so you can monitor the progress.

To exit use the 'DEL' key.

Traffic report (tua)

This is a more detailed report with individual statistics and graphs for modem line(s), site(s) etc. It can also work out the approximate amount of your telephone bill. This report can be used to fine tune the call times.

Show UUCP attempts (uulog)

If there is a problem with the transfer the details are logged, this utility will display or printout the log file. This, used in conjunction with the error messages in the manual should allow you to isolate where the problem lies.

Note: The menu options will run uulog on ALL uucp sites and not just those involved with cross updating.

Machine Availability (uustat)

Will give a one line summary about all the sites, showing you if a transfer was successful or not (and why not).

There may be a need to transfer some selected files from one machine to another. This option will allow you transfer some of the common files and is discussed in a later section.

Utilities

This menu option gives access to the various Unix files that are involved with Cross updating and UUCP. The options are discussed in a later section.

Integration Status (xshow)

The xshow option gives a summary and includes the status of integration with the Premvet 5 files reporting on:
