EnServe01 EnServe Version 1.02 - August -> December 2004
- Admin Menu has had three new options added:
- Administrative -> Scan for Viruses
You can manually start a scan of the Whole hard disk, the user home directories (/u/home), users mailboxes (/usr/spool/mail), the shared area (/w/common), the web server (/u/www) or any specific location. The scan will be verbose so you will see the progress on the screen.
- EnServe -> Lookup Name
You enter a IP address or domain name and the system will 'lookup' details of who owes it and will return some DNS details for it.
- EnServe -> Junkblaster
Access to the Junkblaster configuration files if they ever need changed or updated.
- Administrative -> Scan for Viruses
- Junkblaster - this has been included to help with your privacy.
It will block cookies, stop the browsers sending personal information, stop the browser returning any referrer details. In addition, it will block a large number of adverts.
To take advantage of this alter the browser proxy setting so it is pointing at port 8000 of the Enserve box.
- Security Report
The security report have been expanded to include mail statistics and better reporting of what is hitting your firewall. There are two options:
/usr/utilities/sec -RThis will try to expand up IP numbers to addresses - It WILL take longer to run. /usr/utilities/sec -CLook at the CURRENT logfiles. Normally sec will look at the last rotated logs. 4) Savelogs
Rather than depend on 'prune' to keep the EnServe log files in check a new script /usr/utilities/savelog has been added. This will 'cycle' the appropriate logfiles. This ensures that the data produced by the Security Report applies to the same periods.
- WebMail
WebMail has been added to the system. This allows you to read and reply to all e-mail via a web browser. You do not need to add individual users to the PC's - or configure Outlook for multiple users.
To access WebMail: Point your browser at http://servername (or from within the Vet System: Menu -> Help -> Your Web Site)
There is a link 'EnServe WebMail' - click it.
A quick run down of the initial questions are given in the EnServe User manual and there you will also find links to the tutorial manual.
- Spy-Ware Removal Tools
We have installed some Windows Spy-Ware scanning tools on the main common folder (//server/common/EnServe). These can be used to scan any PC's you may have problems with. See the README.TXT in that folder for up-to-date information.
The Security report has additional option to report on any attempted break ins via SSH. The three new lines are:
SysLog details between Jul 13 09:28:43 - Dec 19 00:20:01
[snip]
ssh - Illegal user login 50
ssh - Failed Password 118
ssh - BREAKIN attempt 1
If you see entries here someone is attempting a breaking. The 'Remote Site' section will show if any succeeded.
The security report also includes a quick summary of the number of logins, send and failed mail coming from OpenWebMail.
The Security report has been updated to check for PC's where the WebClient service has been enabled - you will see multiple entries for 'WebDav' on the Web Page summary.
To disable the WebClient service under Windows XP (it's not needed, just slows things down) use:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Services then disable and stop the `WebClient' service.
