Read219a Premvet 5 (Version 2.19.00) - Changes June 1999

Cross Updating - File Transfer

If either the :

are changed the system will automatically transfer these files to the remote sites.

By default they will be sent, however, if you would rather have manual control over them then you can added an entry into the file /usr/utilities/x_ignore. This is a text file one entry per line as follows:

    v6users.sys
    doses1.dat

Cross Updating - Background Integration

By default the system will wait for a user to login or select the menu option to integrate work from the remote sites. This can be set so that every time the check program (x_check) is run the records will be added there and then. This can be switched on via option 'a' -> 'h' in xmenu.

If background integration is on you will not see the dots indicating integration is taking place.

Search and Replace

This option on the General Applications menu gives you the ability to 'tidy up' the species and breed fields. Over the years staff may have entered a wide range of different data relating to the same breed (species). Rather than go through each record this program will allow you to perform a global search and replace.

This routine will automatically mark any blank species or breed with the work 'Unknown'.

The option is protected via Access Permission number 34.

Use the 'Statistics' program (General -> Statistics -> Old) to get a list of all the breeds and species on the system.

Once selected, the 1st screen allows you to enter the species to work on, enter the species you wish to find and the in the adjacent column the text you wish to replace it with. To make it easier to see what you are searching for the screen is limited to replacing up to 15 occurrences per run. Once you have finished with the species press <ESC> and a similar screen will be shown to allow you to enter the breeds.

Note: The Statistics program is limited to 350 breeds in any one run, this means you may need to repeat the statistics/search programs a few times till the data is correct.

Terminal Settings

A new front-end has been added to the terminal settings screen:

<G>en apps -> <P>arameters -> <H>ardware -> <D>evice

The menu options will allow you alter any of the terminal specific settings in a easy and simple manner.

Windows Emulator

(Note: New help pages will follow in a week or so)

The Premvet 5 help system will integrate with Windows web browsers if the Emulator you are using supports it. Currently we have tested the following:

Type Name Details
T SCO Termvision http://www.sco.com/vision
N Anita http://www.april.se
E Esker TUN http://www.esker.com
P Powerterm http://ericom.com
Z AnzioWin http://www.anzio.com

You can specify the emulator used via the Terminal Settings menu (see above).

When you request, Help via F1, 'The manual' from the help menu or 'Your web site' this will start up Internet Explorer on your PC making it easier to read and navigate the manual and guide.

The options used and web sites that the system defaults to can be customised - these are covered in a seperate guide available from support.

Protocol Files

A new option [clinical] text has been added, normally the only way of recording if a protocol file has been generated is to save it to file and a clinical line will be added. This option will force a line to be added and include the text 'text' rather than the name of the protocol file. If used with the normal save option the 'text' will also override the default title.

Definition file processing - the hash (#)

It is sometimes worthwhile to add comments into definition files, now any line that STARTS with a # will be ignored.

SpreadSheet and CSV files

.csv files (Coma Separated Values) are special files that allow data to be transferred between different programs. A new option on the 'Text Utilities' menu will list the available CSV files and allow you to edit with an Microsoft Windows application (defaults to Excel) the contents. If you do not have a supported Terminal Emulator the system will default to the Unix viewer 'Less'.

This option requires VisionFS to be running and the VetData directory mapped as shared drive P:\.

Graphics Module

This has been made aware of the Terminal Emulator options, and will if used with a supported emulator call two Windows applications.

These are currently set for:

GIF viewer WinGif (On most sharware sites) Install it in C:\Windows
Editor Paint Shop Pro.

When you select the 'X' option from either the animal screens and you have a picture of the animal stored it will automatically be 'pop-ed' up. This can be suppressed by setting User Permission 110.

This option requires VisionFS to be running and the VetData directory mapped as shared drive P:\.

Text Utilities - Text Editors

Whenever you select STE, Pico, EE or the Windows editor the system will use as a default document the file 'your-name'.txt.

This can be used to store note/comments for later use, you will be asked when exiting the editor and the default file contains any information if you would like to re-name it.

This method save you having to enter filenames when exiting.

A new editor has been added 'Windows' - this will call (if your emulator supports it) the Windows application 'WordPad'.

Lifelearn - Custom

The lifelearn module allows you to access the various handouts supplied by lifelearn. However, there may be situations where you want to generate your own handouts and keep them separate from the others. A new option 'Practice' has been added.

To add a handout to the 'Practice' section you should:

It will now appear on the menus. Note, if you want your own handout's to appear in the 'All' category then you should also add a line in the file text/life/life.idx.

Address book

To help remember who a specific supplier/person is you can now add three lines of notes to each address.

When using the 'Find' option, if you leave the name blank you have to option to search the address and notes lines for any specified text.

Status code Meta-Character (^18)

There may be occasions where you wish to remove a status code from with an AP code or Macro - this can be done via the meta character ^18=. This works in the same fashion as at add status code ^4=. e.g.

code ^18=GT remove GT from animal status
code ^4=yy ^18=rr Add code YY and remove RR

Waiting Room List - Colours

The 'Old Style' Waiting room list has had colour events added to make it easier to get visual impression. The events are:

In addition, the To Pay and Being seen option will display the CLIENT details rather than the animal details, while the Due and currently waiting screens will show the ANIMAL details.

Diary - Adding new animal and XUD

When you are at a remote site using cross updating, new animals added via the diary will have records created for them now.

Licence Manger

The licence manager will now no longer show expiry dates on live systems, the date will only be shown when one or more options are running in demonstration mode. If in demonstration mode you will be warned 14 days prior to the licence expiry and if expired the system will revert to read only mode.

NOTE: This will only apply to systems in demonstration mode and NOT to live systems.

ERAD Forms

On Farm record cards a new options has been added :

<H>idden -> <E>rad

This will call up an Excell spreadsheet to allow you to enter TB results for the specific farm you are one.

If this is the 1st time the ERAD option has been selected for this farm then a blank template will be used filling in Farm Name and Address. You can then customise the form using the features of Excel and save the sheet out in native .XLS format. Future use of the ERAD option will use the native form by default.

The template form can be customised in two ways:

You should use the native features of Excell to print and maintain the data.

NOTE: If you are using the 'native features' of Excel then you cannot view the ERAD data on a character based screen. If this is required you should use the CSV format.

VAT Rates

The Vatbook has been changed to show the VAT component by Tax Rate. Rate A is zero%, Rate B is 17.5 (or 12.5). The rates can be altered via Gen Apps - Params -> Fields -> VAT.

These are also available on the Monthly/Yearly Summary for historic purposes.

Laser Labels

The 'Label' option on Client Lists now allows for the output to be sent to '2-up Laser Labels'.

By Branch Reports.

Some new options to breakdown work by Branch have been added to Menu -> Reports -> Additional Reports -> By Branch.

This option will scan the database between a selected range of dates and generate a CSV 'Comma Separated Value' file with the following information:

Work Done by USER by Branch
Work done by ANALYSIS code by BRANCH
Work done by CLIENT by BRANCH

The system will use the branch/surgery number on the CLINICAL screen when determining the figures.

Use the Menu -> Text Utils -> CSV option to look at the results.

ERAD Tag Numbers

To ensure the ERAD Tag number is correct a utility is included that will validate the number. This can be run from the command line as per erad <tag number> e.g. erad IE DNFX 7345L This can be added as a function key option with the command being erad and you will be prompted to enter the details.
