OS Updates

The main reason for the CD is SCO has released an update to your Operating System; this is quite large and cannot be sent via the modems as normal. Maintenance Pack 4 for OSR 5.0.7 contains:

Ø       Lots of nice cool technical stuff that may not mean much to you.

Ø       Support for Intel HTT Pentium and Xenon processors

Ø       Automatic detection of 'Dual Core' technology being installed in many servers.

Ø       Large capacity hard disks > 136Gb

Ø       CD and DVD tools

Ø       Better support for lesser used and obscure printers

Ø       Improved support for a wide range of Web related options

Ø       All the latest bug fixes.

Software Changes

The Premvet update (which many of you already have) 2.20.06 contains:

Ø        Batch Traceability - New reports to meet the latest changes.

Ø       Internet Ordering - It is now possible to use the Internet to pick up Batch Numbers from Dunlops, and electronically order from Centaur. You can also download price disks for Centaur and Dunlops over the web, cutting out the need to copy floppies around machines.

Ø       LabLink - The Menavet Lab Analyser has been added to the list of supported devices.

Ø       Multi-Sites - Search for animals can be restricted to just the surgery you are logged into.

* Join Clinical Records

If when tidying up your system and merging duplicate animals - If you have multiple sites then carry out the merge at the site the animal is registered (or where the bulk of the work is done). This will ensure that current work in the vatbook and the clinical surgery number are set correctly.

* I have gone into DataMajor and I see 'No Tables run vet -p wdb'

The most likely cause is that something clashed with the times that had been used to schedule the DataMajor tables re-building. Use the Automation Manager to check for clashes (usually a validation program) and adjust as required. The tables will usually re-build the following night, f you need them in a hurry - press F6 to get a Vet> prompt and type
vet -p wdb

 

* I want to check my backup worked last night

Two ways:

Ø  Login as `root' and type mail - the results will have been mailed to you.

Ø  Login as `admin' - select option 'b' (Backup menu), then use View -> BackupEdge logfile

 

* I want to add a new member of staff to the computer. How do I do it?

Login as admin, with your current admin password (default admin). Select option:

     e  Administrative menu

then

     b  Add a user to the system

Follow the onscreen instructions. Remember a user name can be a maximum of 8 characters log and must be in lower case.


* How do I find out my top selling stock items?

* I cannot eject my CD/Tape backup

If you are unable to eject the cd/tape it could very well mean that the backup is still running or asking for another tape/cd to be inserted. Check the backup mail to see if there are any messages.

It may be possible to cancel the backup as follows; Log in as admin with password admin. Choose option b - Backup menu. This will load the Backup Edge software. More often than not, Edge will tell you at this point that a backup is still running and will give you the option of sending an abort signal to the backup process. If you are not prompted with any message, you can select Admin from the menu and Eject Medium - CD should eject. Select file then exit to return to the admin menu, press the right arrow once and then press return to exit to login prompt.

 

* Who deleted/made changes to a clients record?

Log in as admin (default password is admin). Choose option e - Administrative Menu > Select View Premvet Logfiles. You will then be given a list of logfiles to choose from. Edit will show any deletions or edits and you can search by using the '/' key. The first line on the screen will contain the text you have searched for. Press 'n' for the next match. OR press the 'end' key to go to the end of the file and search backwards using '?' to find the most recent activity.

 

* I cannot switch OFF (or ON) my new Fujitsu Siemens Primergy TX150 server.

The power button must the pressed and held until the amber LED comes on (approx 5 seconds) - server is now off.  Pressing the power button again will power up the server.
